Question:
i went away for a nice relaxing weekend. so instead of relaxing and
ingoring any messages from home... i call in for my messages..... i hear three
messages listen to the first then the second one and i said OH NO! a child's
father was clalling to tell me that their child had lice! I was itchy from
that moment on. I don't have anything in my head. None of the other children
have anything in their heads...... we (me and mom and dad) have no idea where
he got em from... he went to some kind of "Please touch" museumfor kids and
there was a dog grooming section for the kids and they were all playing with
dog brushes....so i said maybe he got em from there! I've been going nutts
all weekend cleaning Everything! I read that if they little buggers are
not on a head they'll die in 24 hours so anything that might ahve been in my
house would have been dead by the time i came home but man! Is anyone
else a freak like me! ????
Answer:
As far as I'm concerned, head lice is the worst thing a daycare can get. I
always say, "if anyone gets it at my house it will put me out of business!"
I HATE that stuff, besides it's soooo expensive to get rid of it!!
In regard to the head lice....we had 4 separate cases this winter
after 3 years of no head lice problem. After the initial "oh my God" and
clean, clean, clean issue was taken care of, I got real educated from the
internet on head lice. I passed all the info on to my parents. I did not
panic after that because I knew that my home did not have head lice but the
children had head lice. They did not get it here either. We just enforced
strict head lice protocols and still check daily. None of the children
infected were siblings either, it was weird!!. By the way, animals do not
get lice...and you are right, they do not live off the host for more than 24
hrs. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum is the best cleaning method...good luck and
don't panic, this too shall pass. From been there, done that!!
