Question:
Having just checked my head (as I always do once a week!) I have found to my
horror that I have caught the little blighters from someone in my class. I'm
sure you can imagine my dismay! Our school policy is to send children home
if we suspect they have them (we have permission forms to check from
parents) but all to often they come back still with them, but the parents
insist they have treated them or don't want to know. I am now at my wits
end! Can anyone suggest what I can do?
Answer:
Send yourself home tomorrow to deal with them.
We have the same problem with lice, conjunctivitis, slap cheek and
impetigo. The parents are supposed to treat the child and - in the
last three - keep the child at home while infectious.
They often won't do so.
Some parents teach their children to lie. We sometimes find out weeks
later that the child had impetigo and had said nothing and continued
to come to school.
