Question:
This has been going on for a couple months now. My daughter
is the only one of us that has it, and it keeps recurring on her only. I
believe the Nix stuff isn't killing the eggs/nits, and that they're hatching
on her. I just did a Kwell treatment, and am intending to slather mayo
and vinegar, alcohol and H2O, olive oil, etc, on her hair all week and comb
the hell out of it, hoping to get them out of there once and for all, but
anyone
else have any other ideas?? I'm so stressed over this I can't think stratght.
Answer:
Please be careful with what you keep putting on her. These products can cause
secondary problems such as rashes if overused. You don't want to hurt your
child.
It is important that you take any stuffed animals that your child might have
slept with or played with since the first episode, put them in a plastic bag
and keep them away from her for at least 2 weeks or dispose of them. If they
can be washed and dried in the drier - do that. Also, hot, hot, hot, water in
the washer - wash all her bedding, her clothes. Dry them in hot dryer. Lice
can't survive in that atmosphere. Next, vacuum carpeting and furniture. Use a
hair dryer on her hair. Comb all those nits out. I know it takes a long time,
but it is very important to get those nits out. All it takes is one nit to
re-infest her.
I know it sounds like an incredable amount of work, but if you take these extra
measures, you should see an end to this. Also, check to see what is going on
in her school/playgroups/daycare? Anyone else she has come in contact with
having this problem? Maybe she is getting it from someone she sees there.
Hang in there. This too will pass.
I work closely with the clinic aide in our child's elementary school, where we
have seen a number of cases in the past few years.
