Anything else that I should do, to rid the place of the lice and possible other vermin in there??

Question:
My "renters" (and I use the term loosely) are reported to have head lice, according to the neighbors. I plan to bug-bomb the house, wiht my furniture inside of it. And I plan to slime myself up with DeepWoods Off before I go in there to set off the bombs. Anything else that I should do, to rid the place of the lice and possible other vermin in there?? Of note...I literally filled my horsetrailer with bags of trash that have been stored in the garage for gawdknows how long. Now any other ideas?

Answer:
As I understand it, human lice will infest anything made of cloth or cloth-like material. They don't live on bare floors, wooden chairs, etc. There are products sold that can be sprayed on carpets, couches, curtains, mattresses, etc. that will kill lice. Your local pharmacist should be able to help you there. Anything that can be washed in HOT water and dried in a HOT drier should be. Small things that can't be washed like that can be sealed in plastic bags and put away for six months (maybe that's an exaggeration). Anyway, the Health Department can help you with written instructions for eliminating them from the premises so you can rent again. I worked in a school and did the lice checks several times a year, so have some idea of how to deal with them, though I'm sure some measures have changed over the years. Don't get your knickers in a twist over headlice. They are common in schools today, spread fast between clean children who play and work with their heads together, so can happen to every member of any social class of family with children. Headlice favour clean long loose hair, and they have acquired some resistance to over-used insecticides. Having headlice doesn't necessarily indicate your tenants are dirty, careless, or have infested your house with vermin of any kind. You won't catch them from the house or furnishings, they are transmitted by hair-to-hair contact with a person who has them.
