Question:
I am a student teacher and I would like any home remedies you know of for
getting rid of lice... Lice is rampant in my kindergarten and I am afraid that
I caught them....some one told me to pour vinegar on my head and let it set for
a while. Is this effective? Any help you could give me would be appreachiated
right away.
Answer:
First, let the school know about the 'outbreak' and notify the state
department of health if no one in your office will do it.
Second, there are several products that you can buy in a grocery store or a
store like Wal-Mart, Target, etc. For sure in a drug store.
But if you don't get complete treatment for EVERYONE, then it will never go
away. Also, be sure that the children aren't 'sharing' hats, clothes, etc.
If your school has a school nurse, contact them immediately. Most schools
have rules that if a child is sent home with head lice, then they can't return
until a nurse (or someone) checks to see that they are gone.
I wouldn't try any 'home remedies'...some are dangerous. A year or two ago a
man used yard pesticide straight from the bottle (didn't read the label) and
washed his daughter's hair in it. She nearly died and he had to face charges
(ignorance is no excuse when it comes to endangering someone's life.)
I think the product is called "RID"... it shouldn't be expensive nor hard to
find. Good luck!
