Question:
I am looking for a treatment for lice nits. A child who visits my house
frequently has recently had a bout with head lice. She picked them up from a
group child care setting and can't seem to get rid of them. My concern is not
only for her, but also my family. I am 10 weeks pregnant and cannot use
commercial products to ensure that she doesn't leave any of them here.
Thanks in advance,
Answer:
Okay, here's what I have found when dealing with this problem in the past
few months-
Pennyroyal oil- stings like crazy, didn't do much at all...
olive oil, left on for a few hours- Seemed to work, but by the time my
hair stopped feeling greasy the bugs came back (they were easier
to comb out, though)
coconut oil, left on overnight- didn't do much
baby oil, same thing- did even less
rinsing hair in water as hot as I could stand- relieved itching, maybe it
would work if I could do it longer.
Tea tree oil, applied to scalp- helped itching
Rid, Nix, etc- nada, doesn't even faze them if it doesn't work the first
time...
I have to say that once those bugs get ahold of you, they are utter hell
to get rid of... (the only solution I have found that I haven't yet tried
is applying a tobacco decoction to the hair- it seems pretty unsavory but
it could work...)
