Question:
I am VERY interested in anything that will help me to control Headlice. My
daughters' school is rife with them.
They have a policy of sending home children with live lice seen, yet no-one
seems to be checking.
My children have been traeted chemically, 3 times in 3 weeks and yet still
I am
finding at least one live louse on one of them everyday
Answer:
There are a number of sites on the net giving advice on how to get rid of
the pests - search 'head lice'. One recommends the use of olive oil or
similar as this has the effect of blocking their breathing holes thus dying
by suffocation - aaahhh! I had them myself for the first time just before
Christmas - my head was alive with them - most unpleasant. I put
conditioner on my hair first and my partner spent a good hour combing
systematically through my hair which got rid of a lot - then I blasted them
with Derbac (I'm sure this is an anagram of de-crab!!). Carried on combing
my hair for a week after but didn't find anything else...... for now!
I think chemical treatments are all right as a one off - but I read that
some nits have become chemical resistant. I don't think you can really beat
systematic use of the nit comb. Tea Tree oil is also reputed to be good in
some cases. Failing that - it's the razor I think!
